Tile and Stone Care and Maintenance
- Sweep your floor to remove dirt and grit.
- Wipe spills quickly.
- Damp mop once a week.
- Make sure the cleanser you use is a neutral pH compatible with grout cleaning. Never use detergent or soap.
- Use protective mats in entryways and pads under furniture legs.
- Wait the proper time for grout to cure before you apply a sealer.

Stone and Tile Installation
Mill Direct Carpet & Floor Covering will help you every step of the way after you’ve selected your new floor. We provide:
- Professional on-site measurement
- Removal of old flooring
- Skilled installation
Before Installation
- Make sure you know who is removing your existing flooring. The installer can do it. If not, you should make arrangements to have it removed. Minimize dust by vacuuming your old flooring before it is removed and after it is removed, vacuum the floor.
- Moving the furniture. Decide in advance if you want to remove the furniture or if you want the installer to handle it. Either way, remove all fragile items from the room.
- Linear or rectangular tile should run parallel to windows or in narrow rooms to the longest wall.
- Measure door clearances before installation. If the new floor is thicker than your existing floor, door bottoms may rub.
- Paint first. If you’re planning to paint or wallpaper, it’s best to do it before your carpet is installed.
During Installation
- Subfloor: Tile should be installed over a subfloor that’s structurally sound, rigid, level, smooth and clean.
- Installation: The installer will determine tile layout. Using chalk-lines as a guide, installer will spread thinset mortar in small areas and will place the tiles in it. Spacers are used between the tiles so they are placed evenly. After the mortar sets, grout is applied, sometimes the next day.
- Cleaning and Curing: The installer will clean the tiles, ridding them of grout. After installation is complete, stay off the floor for 24–48 hours, depending on the room’s expected traffic.
